Brazilian Professor Discusses Accountability and Public Governance at the FISIP Undip Global Classroom

Semarang (05/13) – The Public Administration Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, held an Undip Global Classroom event for the Risk Management course with the theme “Accountability: From Definitions to Systemic Practice.” This event featured Prof. Paula Chies Schommer, Ph.D., from Santa Catarina State University, Brazil, as the keynote speaker.

This activity was attended by approximately 200 participants consisting of students and lecturers of Public Administration from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University. The event was opened by Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University.

In his remarks, the Dean of FISIP Undip stated that the Global Classroom activity is part of the faculty’s efforts to strengthen the international academic atmosphere and provide global learning experiences to students. He also emphasized the importance of the theme of accountability in public administration studies, especially amidst the increasing demands for transparent, responsive, and public-interest-oriented governance. Through this activity, students are expected to not only understand the concept of accountability theoretically, but also be able to see its relevance in public governance practices in Indonesia and in the global context.

In her presentation, Prof. Paula explained that accountability cannot be understood solely as an obligation to report, comply with regulations, or accept sanctions. Rather, it needs to be viewed as a systemic practice related to governance, institutional performance, transparency, public participation, and government responsiveness to community needs. The material also highlighted: importance open government , collaborative governance , equity , and co-production in strengthen practice accountability public .
