Department of Public Administration, FISIP Undip, to Boost Eco-Branding for Batik MSMEs Through Canva Training in Batik Village Semarang

The Academic Expertise Cluster (Kelompok Berbasis Keahlian/KBK) of the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, organized a Community Service Program on May 19, 2026, at Kampoeng Djadhoel, Batik Village Semarang. The event carried the theme “Empowering Batik SME Actors in Eco-Branding using the Canva Application as a Digital Governance Strategy in Batik Village Semarang.” The program aims to enhance the capacity of batik small and medium enterprise (SME) actors in utilizing digital technology to strengthen product promotion and brand image, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.

Dr. Johan Bhimo Sukoco, S.Sos., M.Si., a member of the KBK, stated that this initiative is expected to encourage batik SME actors to leverage the Canva application as a creative tool for building their product identity and branding. According to him, the ability to manage compelling and professional visual content is a key factor in improving product competitiveness in the digital era.

To support these objectives, the program featured Johnsen Hezron Gelora Kasih, S.AP., a content creator practitioner and a student in the Master of Public Administration Program at FISIP Undip. During the training session, he provided both theoretical insights and hands-on practice on using Canva as a medium for creating effective digital promotional materials, thereby strengthening the eco-branding strategy of batik SMEs.

Approximately 14 batik SME actors from Kampoeng Djadhoel, Batik Village Semarang, participated in the activity. The participants displayed high levels of enthusiasm throughout the event, both during the material presentation and the hands-on application sessions. The active interaction between participants and the resource person reflected a strong interest among business actors in adopting digital technology for business development.

Concluding the event, the moderator, Renata Jati Nirmala, S.IAN., MPA., expressed her hope that this training would provide tangible benefits for batik SME actors. The use of Canva is expected not only to help strengthen product branding but also to enhance the capacity of business actors in utilizing digital technology as part of innovative, sustainable, and competitive marketing strategies.
