Semarang, 7 July 2026 – The Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, officially commenced the International Summer Course 2026 under the theme “Climate Change and the Limits of Public Administration.” The program serves as an international academic platform that brings together students, academics, and researchers to discuss one of the most pressing governance challenges of the 21st century: climate change and its implications for public administration.
The Opening Ceremony was officially inaugurated by Retna Hanani, S.Sos., MPP, Head of the Department of Public Administration, FISIP Universitas Diponegoro. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the importance of strengthening international academic collaboration in developing innovative and adaptive public administration approaches to address increasingly complex global challenges.
The ceremony also featured welcoming remarks from Mohammad Nurul Huda, S.AP., MPA, Chair of the International Summer Course 2026, who expressed his appreciation to all participants, speakers, partner universities, and organizing committee members for their commitment to making the program a success. He highlighted that the Summer Course reflects the Department’s commitment to advancing internationalization and fostering collaborative learning across countries.
The Department of Public Administration extends its sincere gratitude to the Dean and the leadership of FISIP Universitas Diponegoro for their continuous support, guidance, and encouragement in the organization of the International Summer Course 2026. Appreciation is also conveyed to all faculty members of the Department of Public Administration and the organizing committee, whose dedication and collective efforts have made this international academic program possible.
The International Summer Course 2026 has attracted 87 officially registered participants through the LP2MP registration system, representing Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Madagascar, Pakistan, Australia, and South Korea. During the Opening Ceremony, participant attendance exceeded expectations, with approximately 110 participants, including international students and attendees from various institutions around the world.
This year’s program is organized in collaboration with several distinguished partner universities, including:
- Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (Indonesia)
- Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Malaysia)
- Burapha University (Thailand)
- Pangasinan State University (Philippines)
- University of the Philippines (Philippines)
- Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea)
The academic program officially began with the first lecture entitled “Climate Change as a Limit-Testing Problem for Public Administration,” delivered by Prof. Nova E. Arquillano from Pangasinan State University, The Philippines. The session explored how climate change challenges the traditional boundaries of public administration and encourages more adaptive, collaborative, and context-sensitive governance approaches.
Throughout July 2026, participants will engage in a series of international lectures and discussions covering topics such as climate justice, governance fragmentation, performance measurement, administrative capacity, and adaptive public management. The program aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of contemporary public administration while fostering global networking and cross-cultural academic collaboration.
