FISIP UNDIP Holds UNDIP Global Classroom: Social Empowerment Courses, Discussing Social Empowerment for Industrial Waste Processing Workers in Malaysia and Indonesia

Semarang, May 4, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, held the UNDIP Global Classroom: Social Empowerment Courses event under the theme “Social Empowerment for Industrial Waste Processing Workers in Malaysia and Indonesia.” This activity was conducted on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) online. This Global Classroom event represents FISIP UNDIP’s commitment to strengthening academic internationalization, particularly through cross-country learning development relevant to social, environmental, and community empowerment issues. The chosen theme highlights the importance of social empowerment for industrial waste processing workers in both Malaysia and Indonesia, as part of efforts to build more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable environmental governance.

The event featured Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd. Fadhil bin Md Din, Director of UTM Campus Sustainability & TUNE Project Coordinator, as the main speaker. Through this forum, participants were invited to understand the dynamics of worker empowerment in the industrial waste processing sector, including social challenges, institutional capacity, worker protection, and opportunities for academic collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia. The event was opened by Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of FISIP UNDIP. In his remarks, the Dean of FISIP UNDIP affirmed that the Global Classroom activity serves as a strategic space to broaden the horizons of students and lecturers in understanding contemporary social issues that are cross-country in nature.

“FISIP UNDIP continues to encourage the strengthening of international learning that is not only oriented towards knowledge exchange but also towards developing social sensitivity to real problems in society. The issue of empowering industrial waste processing workers is an important topic because it is directly related to environmental sustainability, social protection, and inclusive development governance,” said Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of FISIP UNDIP. Furthermore, the Dean of FISIP UNDIP conveyed that academic collaboration with international partners is expected to strengthen FISIP UNDIP’s position as a higher education institution actively responding to global issues through the perspective of social sciences and public administration.

“We hope this activity can be a shared learning platform for academics, students, and international partners in formulating more effective social approaches for worker groups in strategic sectors, including industrial waste processing. Through forums like this, FISIP UNDIP wants to continue contributing to producing ideas, research, and empowerment practices that have an impact on society,” he added. This activity was also supported by the Teaching Team on Social Empowerment Courses, consisting of Teuku Afrizal, S.E., M.ENV.MGT., Ph.D; Dr. Titik Djumiarti, S.Sos., M.Si; Dra. Nina Widowati, M.Si; Retna Hanani, S.Sos., MPP; Johan Bhimo Sukoco, S.Sos., M.Si; Renata Jati Nirmala, S.IAN., MPA; and Rosalina Woro Subekti, S.IP., MPA. This activity was under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Dra. Sri Suwitri, M.Si, as the Project Leader of Academic Expertise Cluster Development Administration.

Through the implementation of this UNDIP Global Classroom, FISIP UNDIP affirms its role in strengthening international academic networks and delivering adaptive learning responsive to global needs. This event is also part of FISIP UNDIP’s efforts to support the vision of Diponegoro University as a dignified, beneficial, and impactful university for the broader community.
