The Undergraduate Public Administration Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University (FISIP UNDIP), continues to strengthen the connection between learning and the needs of the business world, industry, and the workplace (DUDIK). One concrete outcome is the implementation of student research internships at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). This activity is a result of collaboration between the Public Administration Study Program of FISIP UNDIP and BRIN, and also serves as a form of workplace recognition of student competencies in the fields of research and governance.
Through this collaboration, Aldi, a sixth-semester student of Public Administration at FISIP UNDIP, participated in the Research Internship Program organized by the Directorate of Talent Management of BRIN from February 18 to July 17, 2026. He was placed at the Center for Domestic Government Research, a unit directly related to the field of Public Administration.
During the internship, Aldi was involved in various activities that bridged academic knowledge with practical work at a government research institution. He participated in knowledge-sharing sessions with BRIN researchers on research methodology, decentralization, government innovation, research management, policy paper development, and the utilization of technology and data in research.
This recognition was also evident from BRIN’s trust in the student to carry out substantive tasks. Aldi was entrusted to serve as the general coordinator of the internship participants and the coordinator of the data management team. He also managed government data, drafted meeting minutes, designed policy briefs and research presentation materials, assisted in the organization of national seminars, and wrote articles about the internship activities published on Kompasiana.
This program also produced several academic outputs. Aldi published an article on a comparison of food waste management in Indonesia and Singapore in a SINTA 5 accredited journal, participated in a call for papers organized by Bawaslu RI and DPR RI, conducted bibliometric research on Green Open Spaces, and collaborated with students from the University of Indonesia and Brawijaya University in compiling a compendium on the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal Program.
For the Public Administration Study Program of FISIP UNDIP, student involvement in research work, data management, and policy recommendation formulation demonstrates that the competencies developed through learning are relevant to workplace needs, particularly in government and research institutions. The internship at BRIN, therefore, is not only a learning space for students but also a tangible testament to DUDIK recognition and the benefits of institutional collaboration between the Public Administration Study Program of FISIP UNDIP and BRIN.
